Interesting stuff around the Web
This section includes some of the most interesting articles I read in the last few days. They are not focused on any topic, but I’d like to share them with you as they are insightful and helpful.
- How Grey is your Vallet: Duncan Riley responds to Matt Mullenweg, founder of Automattic (the company behind WordPress), who earlier criticized opensource projects about their solutions to get financed. Financing in the OpenSource-Community is always a hot topic.
- The iPhone is the new IE4 (in a good way): Joe Hewitt takes a stab at justifying why the iPhone is a revolutionary tool for which standards are useless and backwards compatibility to other browsers/clients is not a problem users should be concerned about. While I agree that the iPhone is surely revolutionary it should still respect the standards to make the applications (as they are no longer simple webpages) accessible to a wide public.
- A detailed explanation how to create a maintainable dynamic slide show in JavaScript: not much to say here, it’s a good read and I really enjoy these “Full analysis and implementation”-Style of articles.
- How JavaScript is Slowing Down the Web (And What To Do About It): a detailed analysis on what widget designers can do to lighten their widgets.
