WordPress 2.5

WordPress 2.5 has been released with a major overhaul to the interface and a range of new features. The biggest change is in the appearance of the administration backend, which is described as being a “Cleaner, faster, less cluttered dashboard.” The WordPress dashboard is now widget friendly, and users can include items such as stats, offering similar functionality to MovableType. Other new features include multi-file uploading, one-click plugin upgrades, built-in galleries, salted passwords and cookie encryption, media library, code friendly WYSIWYG, concurrent post editing protection, full-screen writing, and improved search. I don’t really see a need to upgrade to the latest WordPress if its just the looks of the back end that changed. As far as cookies are concerned maybe I’ll consider it.

I upgraded my site this morning. Have to say I am well impressed. Site seems quicker and the amount of administration that’s given is ace.

@Doctorfox: If you don’t upgrade, you should at the very least upgrade the security files (which is part of the 2.5 upgrade, but can be done independently). They patched a major hole (or set of holes) apparently.

One question: Are you using a customized template, or just a template straight “out of the box”? Reason I ask is I’ve heavily customized my template and I’m worried that upgrading will cause me some down time if the template is messed up because of the upgrade…Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance – I found you through Entrecard btw.
