The entrecard effect

I was wondering lately what the actual effect of using entrecard on my blog is, so I stopped dropping cards for a few days until the drops on my blog were almost none and then 5 days ago I started dropping again and guess what the traffic went straight up:

EntreCard Stats change

While this surely looks promising however the bounce rate went through the roof with an increase of a whopping 20%. Still not bad enough? After 3 days of dropping the time on site reached the all time low of just 23 seconds…

So EntreCard is nice if you want to jump start your blog, or pad in some additional users, but it’s not the way to look for quality traffic (as in dedicated readers that take the time to appreciate your effort in writing the posts). After all there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.I personally will continue using entrecard because some droppers are bound to stick around

Why am I blogging?

This blog has been live for the last 2 years (it’s actually turning 2 next week) and I’ve been more or less active, posting new articles, trying to keep up with new events and trends and sometimes sprinkling in some personal posts. The blog has had it’s up and downs and sometimes I was successful with my publishings, especially in the more technical corner: And I think I can be pretty proud of most of them. Then again others weren’t as successful as I thought they might be… The problem is that after two years I’m starting to ask myself what the point in this is, take it as a mid life crisis for bloggers, blogging takes a lot of time, especially when you focus on technical articles and tutorials like I prefer to do, and I don’t have that time anymore. Maybe it will get better after the current semester, but the question is do I really want to go on and blog? Blogging has become some sort of obbligation, something I have to force myself into, it’s supposed to be fun, but as it is right now it isn’t. It’s more of a work.

Crappy Server

FeedMedic Failures
Lately I have some problems with my hosting provider, it keeps coming up and down several times an hour, and I’m pretty annoyed by now to see the Feedburner FeedMedic hundreds of alerts, my cron jobs failing, my tools not working and most important, the blog being unreachable.

As soon as I can I will switch away from dynamic-net.ch (sorry guys but crappy support and service always comes back).
